MINISTER FOR TRANSPORT, SARAWAK RECEIVES COURTESY CALL FROM SARAWAK RIVERS BOARD CHAIRMAN

Newly appointed Sarawak Rivers Board Chairman, YB Tuan Hj Safiee bin Hj Ahmad paid a courtesy call to Minister for Transport Sarawak (MOTS), YB Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, at his office in Bangunan Baitulmakmur on March 13th 2024. He was appointed with effect from 1st January, 2024. Accompanying him was Sarawak River Board Controller, Lieutenant Colonel Ding Tiew Wong (Rtd). The purpose of the courtesy call was to seek the advice of the Minister on the Ministry’s present and future plans and directions set for the Sarawak Rivers Board. During the meeting, the Minister emphasized the Ministry’s vision to develop and modernize Sarawak's navigable commercial river system as part of the transportation and logistics network. He would like Sarawak Rivers Board to work closely with the Ministry to encourage the use of rivers for transportation, especially bulky goods rather than solely dependent on roads. If more heavy cargoes can be transported via rivers, there will be less damage on our roads, and also reduce traffic congestion and accidents.The Minister also requested the new Chairman to work with the SRB Management to improve the organizational structure for more efficient and effective discharge of SRB’s duties and responsibilities and service delivery. Also in attendance during this courtesy call were MOTS Deputy Minister (Riverine and Marine), YB Dato Henry Harry ak Jinep, Permanent Secretary YBhg Dato Alice Jawan Empaling, Deputy Permanent Secretary, and Head of Riverine and Maritime Division.
