KUCHING, 13th August 2025 – The Sarawak Rivers Board received a courtesy visit from the Resident Mukah Division, YBhg. Datu Kueh Lei Poh, accompanied by the District Officer of Matu, the District Officer of Dalat, and officers from the Public Works Department and the Department of Irrigation and Drainage, Mukah Division. The engagement session was held to discuss and understand the requirements and procedures of the Sarawak Rivers Board in relation to activities and engineering works to be carried out in or across rivers and riverbanks, as well as matters concerning navigational safety and river cleanliness in Sarawak. The session was chaired by Lt. Col. Ding Tiew Wong (Retired), the Controller of the Sarawak Rivers Board, and attended by Senior Officers and Technical Staff from Riverine Safety Section, Technical Services Section, Barrage and Shiplock Section, and Enforcement and Legal Section. A presentation of an overview on the functions and duties of the Sarawak Rivers Board was delivered by the Controller of the Sarawak Rivers Board. Key topics included the Board’s core responsibilities in riverine traffic safety and river cleanliness, relevant legislation and legal provisions. The subsequent presentation continued with an explanation on the requirements for site inspection by the Sarawak Rivers Board for any activities and engineering works to be undertaken in or across rivers. It also covered the requirement for the Marine Traffic and Risk Analysis (MTRA) study, and the mandatory compliance with the laws and regulations stipulated under the Sarawak Rivers Ordinance, 1993. The financial procedures were also explained, particularly the payment of the Site Inspection Fee prior to conducting a joint site inspection with the project owner, to ensure a clearer understanding, particularly for projects to be implemented by relevant departments or agencies which are yet to appoint contractors or consultants, including projects under the 12th Malaysia Plan, Rural Transformation Projects (RTP) and the upcoming project under 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP). As a result of the engagement session, the Resident of Mukah Division and representatives of departments/agencies in Mukah Division gained a clearer understanding of the roles and functions of the Sarawak Rivers Board in providing comments on safety and cleanliness for any activities and engineering works carried out in or across rivers. To conclude the session, the Sarawak Rivers Board expressed appreciation to the Resident of Mukah Division and representatives of departments/agencies in Mukah Division for the courtesy visit, which fostered strong cooperation, and emphasised that the Board continues its efforts through stakeholder engagement, which is essential to facilitate the smooth implementation of the large scale projects including the community projects that benefit the rakyat. Please Click Here To View Album Sibu, 8 Ogos 2025, Lembaga Sungai-Sungai Sarawak (LSS) telah melaksanakan Mesyuarat dan Operasi Pemantauan Aktiviti Riverine di Sektor Wilayah II, Sibu pada 7 hingga 8 Ogos 2025. Inisiatif ini bertujuan memastikan semua aktiviti di sungai berjalan dengan selamat, mematuhi peraturan, serta bebas daripada pencemaran dan gangguan terhadap keselamatan navigasi. Operasi memberi tumpuan kepada aspek penguatkuasaan pematuhan Sarawak Rivers Ordinance 1993 (SRO 1993), termasuk pemeriksaan Permit Pengangkutan Sungai, pemantauan kerja-kerja kejuruteraan dan struktur pembinaan di sungai dan tebingan, serta aktiviti pengambilan mineral. Selain itu, operasi turut memeriksa aktiviti river crossing sambil memupuk kesedaran penggunaan jaket keselamatan dalam kalangan pengguna pengangkutan sungai. Kawasan operasi meliputi laluan di sepanjang Batang Rajang, dari Terminal Penumpang Sibu ke Kanowit, Sarikei, Daro, Batang Igan, serta beberapa lokasi tumpuan (hot spot) yang telah dikenal pasti. Hasil pemantauan mendapati terdapat beberapa pelanggaran peraturan di bawah SRO 1993 oleh pemilik projek, kontraktor dan juragan kapal. Tindakan penguatkuasaan telah diambil mengikut peruntukan undang-undang yang berkuat kuasa. Seramai 30 anggota LSS pelbagai pangkat terlibat dalam operasi ini. LSS akan terus melaksanakan pemantauan secara berkala bagi meningkatkan tahap keselamatan, kelestarian dan kebersihan laluan sungai di negeri ini.

The Sarawak and Sabah Shipowners Association (SSSA) and the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) jointly organised the Anti-Piracy Forum 2025 on 6 August 2025 at Tanahmas Hotel, Sibu, Sarawak, bringing together government agencies, maritime industry players, and international partners to enhance cooperation in combating piracy and sea robbery in Asia. The event was officiated by YB Dato Henry Harry Jinep, Deputy Minister of Transport Sarawak (Maritime and Riverine), as the guest of honour, who also delivered the keynote opening remark. Opening addresses were given by SSSA Chairman Mr Yong Ing Huong and ReCAAP ISC Assistant Director (Operations) Mr Kwon Soon Tae. Presentations included strategies for strengthening regional cooperation by ReCAAP ISC Senior Manager Liu Mei and enforcement updates on the Straits of Malacca and Singapore, along with experience sharing from Tung Seng Enterprise Sdn Bhd and Gimhwak Shipping Sdn Bhd. The Sarawak Rivers Board, led by Controller Lt. Col. Ding Tiew Wong (Bersara) and accompanied by officers, attended the forum as part of their ongoing commitment to maritime safety, riverine security, and anti-piracy collaboration, underscoring the importance of multi-stakeholder engagement, information sharing, and enforcement coordination to safeguard regional trade routes.

Please Click Here To View Album Song, 2 Ogos 2025 – Lembaga Sungai-Sungai Sarawak (LSS), dengan kerjasama pelbagai agensi kerajaan, telah berjaya menganjurkan Program Kesedaran Keselamatan dan Kebersihan Sungai selama dua hari di Rumah Panjang Sinau, Batu Labang, Katibas pada 1 dan 2 Ogos 2025. Program ini bertujuan meningkatkan kesedaran dalam kalangan penduduk setempat terhadap kepentingan keselamatan di sungai serta penjagaan kebersihan kawasan persekitaran, khususnya di sepanjang Sungai Katibas. Antara aktiviti utama yang dilaksanakan ialah gotong-royong di sekitar jeti SK Lubok Bedil, sesi ceramah keselamatan, dan demonstrasi pencegahan kebakaran oleh Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia (BOMBA). Lima agensi penceramah telah menyampaikan ceramah berkaitan keselamatan, kesihatan, dan alam sekitar, iaitu: • Majlis Daerah Kapit • Pejabat Kesihatan Kapit • Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) • Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia (BOMBA) • Lembaga Sungai-Sungai Sarawak (LSS) Majlis penangguhan telah disempurnakan oleh Yang Berhormat Tuan Lidam Anak Assan, ADUN N.62 Katibas. Turut hadir ialah Yang Berhormat Tuan Haji Safiee Bin Haji Ahmad, Pengerusi Lembaga Sungai-Sungai Sarawak merangkap ADUN N.43 Daro; Lt. Kol. Ding Tiew Wong (Bersara), Controller Lembaga Sungai-Sungai Sarawak; Encik Harry Edwin, Pegawai Daerah Song; serta ketua-ketua masyarakat termasuk Tr. Sinau Anak Jangan. Antara acara utama yang menarik perhatian ialah pelepasan sebanyak 3,000 benih anak ikan tengadak ke dalam Sungai Katibas, serta penyampaian jaket keselamatan dan cenderahati kepada penduduk dan agensi yang terlibat. Program ini telah dihadiri oleh seramai 150 peserta yang terdiri daripada penduduk Rumah Panjang Sinau, pelajar, wakil agensi kerajaan serta komuniti sekitar. Program ini mendapat maklum balas yang sangat menggalakkan daripada penduduk setempat, yang menyifatkannya sebagai satu inisiatif berimpak tinggi dalam memperkukuh kesedaran terhadap keselamatan sungai serta kebersihan persekitaran rumah panjang. Ia diharapkan dapat diteruskan pada masa akan datang bagi memperkukuh kerjasama antara agensi kerajaan dan komuniti dalam memelihara sumber air dan keselamatan di kawasan pedalaman.

(Sealite) visited the Sarawak Rivers Board at Headquarters as part of a courtesy visit and engagement session to present the latest technology in Aids to Navigation (AtoN) and to gain insight into issues related to navigational safety on rivers in Sarawak. The session was chaired by Lt. Col. Ding Tiew Wong (Retired), the Controller of the Sarawak Rivers Board, and attended by Senior Officers and Technical Staff from Riverine Safety Section, Technical Services Section, Barrage and Shiplock Section and Kuching Regional Office. SPX Aids to Navigation Pty. Ltd. (Sealite) was represented by Mr. Michael Walker (Managing Director), Mr. Lawrence Pok (Business Development Manager) along with Mr. Allan Goh and Mr. Desmond Pui from SARA-CHEM. A presentation of an overview on the functions and duties of the Sarawak Rivers Board was delivered by the Controller of the Sarawak Rivers Board. Key topics included the Board’s core responsibilities in riverine traffic safety and river cleanliness, relevant legislation and legal provisions, the management of Aids to Navigation (AtoN) within its jurisdiction, and the regulation of riverine activities. The session also emphasised the importance of collaboration with relevant stakeholders and inter-agency coordination to ensure effective monitoring, maintenance, and repair of AtoN, as well as timely response in the event of malfunctions. A subsequent presentation was delivered by Mr. Michael Walker, Managing Director of SPX Aids to Navigation Pty. Ltd. Topics included the latest technology in Aids to Navigation (AtoN) and the global recognition of AtoN products (i.e., SEALITE, SABIK, and CARMANAH) which are in accordance with the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) standard. These AtoN are well regarded in Asia for their ease of operation, low maintenance requirements, and the availability of spare parts through authorised vendors or suppliers across Southeast Asia (e.g., Singapore). The discussion also addressed the proposed development of guidelines for inland waterways, particularly in determining navigable channels at narrow passages such as vessel approaches to bridges and construction zones for engineering works in rivers and the installation of special marks to demarcate work zones, ensuring adequate guidance for mariners and river users, especially on rivers in Sarawak. To conclude the session, the Controller of the Sarawak Rivers Board expressed appreciation to SPX Aids to Navigation Pty. Ltd. for the courtesy visit, which fostered good cooperation, and emphasised that the Board continues its efforts through stakeholder engagement to obtain technical expertise, thereby promoting effective knowledge transfer among its officers and technical personnel.
