Technical Committee Workshop on Draft Final Report and Design Stage (i): Draft Preliminary Report for Sungai Sarawak Barrage

The primary objective of the workshop is to provide Technical Committee members with the opportunity to thoroughly review and discuss the findings and recommendations presented in the draft final report on the scouring investigation at the Sungai Sarawak Barrage. The workshop also aims to evaluate and gather feedback on the Stage 1 - Draft Preliminary Report for the proposed remedial designs, focusing on ensuring the long-term stability and operational integrity of the barrage. Additionally, the workshop seeks to gather valuable input from technical approach to the design and implementation of remedial measures.
The workshop was attended by members of the Technical Committee, including representatives from the Ministry of Transport Sarawak (MOTS), the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), the Public Works Department Sarawak (JKRS), the Land & Survey Department (L&S), and the Marine Department Sarawak Region (JLWS). Officers from the Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) and the barrage operator, KBM Sdn Bhd, were also present. Consultants from EDS Consultant Sdn Bhd (EDS) and Dr. Nik and Associate Sdn Bhd (DNA) attended, with representatives from the Tianjin Research Institute of Water Transport Engineering (TIWTE) in China joining via an online platform.
During the two days workshop, presentations were led by the consultant’s team speaker, Ir. Iwan Tan from DNA and Dr. Zhu Ting Ting from TIWTE, who provided detailed insights on the two main topics:
  • Overview of Project Study and Findings of the Final Study based on the analysis of desktop study, field data collection, Numerical and Physical Modelling
  • Preliminary Design for remedial Works Options
The workshop successfully gathered valuable input from all participants, which will inform the confirmation of the investigation study findings and finalization of the remedial design. The workshop also provided and developed the comments and guides on the presentation slide, with additional reviews and updates to follow.
