MARINE TRAFFIC AND RISK ANALYSIS (MTRA) STUDY FOR THE PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION OF SUNGAI KRIAN BRIDGE IN SARATOK DISTRICT, BETONG DIVISION, SARAWAK

SIBU, 12th March 2025  - The Riverine Traffic and Navigation Safety Committee (RTNSC) Meeting No. 2/2025 was held at Tanahmas Hotel in Sibu to discuss further on the Marine Traffic and Risk Analysis (MTRA) Study for the proposed construction of the Sungai Krian Bridge in Saratok District, Betong Division, Sarawak.

The meeting was chaired by YB Tuan Haji Sapiee Bin Haji Ahmad, the Chairman of the RTNSC of the Board along with RTNSC Members. Also in attendance were invited guests YB Friday Belik (ADUN Krian) and YB Tuan Haji Mohd. Bin Duri (ADUN Kalaka), Resident of Betong Division, and representatives from the Land and Survey Betong Division.

The presentation was delivered by ESI Konsultant Sdn. Bhd., the appointed MTRA Consultant for the project by the Public Works Department, Sarawak. The presentation has proposed several options for vertical and horizontal clearance, initially recommended by the Public Works Department, Sarawak from 12m x 35m to 12m x 80m above mean higher high water level.

As a result of the comprehensive briefing by the ESI Konsultant Sdn. Bhd., the RTNSC advised that the proposed bridge clearance be reassessed to ensure alignment with the vertical and horizontal clearances incorporated in the bridge project downstream of Sungai Krian at Kaba, Saratok District, Betong Division, Sarawak. Any revised vertical and horizontal clearances recommended in the final MTRA study report must be submitted to the project owner, the Public Works Department, Sarawak, for comments and consideration prior to submission to the Sarawak Rivers Board. The Board will then present the findings to the RTNSC for deliberation and approval.

The RTNSC requests the prompt submission of the final MTRA study report within 14 days from the date of the official notification.
