The River Safety and Cleanliness Campaign was officiated today in conjunction with the Project Handover Ceremony for the project titled “Replacement of Existing Pontoons and Other Associated Works at R.C. Pontoon Wharf, Main Bazaar, Bintangor.” The ceremony was officiated by YB Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Minister for Transport Sarawak.

The campaign highlights the Government of Sarawak’s commitment to promoting river safety, responsible use of river facilities, and the protection of waterways. As rivers remain vital to transportation and economic activities in Sarawak, public awareness and cooperation are essential to ensure safe navigation and clean river environments.

Approved under the Twelfth Malaysia Plan (12MP) (Project ID: S12/T02/002479), the project was implemented by the Sarawak Rivers Board under the Ministry of Transport Sarawak. Construction commenced on 6 November 2024 and was completed on 19 December 2025 at a cost of RM3,040,357.00.

The works involved replacing ageing pontoons, upgrading gangways and roof sheds, installing new piles and solar marine lanterns, and carrying out associated safety and environmental compliance measures. These improvements enhance safety, accessibility, and comfort for river users and the local community.

With the completion of this project and the launch of the campaign, SRB reaffirms its commitment to safer, cleaner, and more sustainable river transport infrastructure for the people of Sarawak.
