TECHNICAL WORKSHOP FOR DEVELOPING COUNTRIES ON PORT AND WATERWAY CONSTRUCTION 2026 IN TIANJIN RESEARCH INSTITUTE FOR WATER TRANSPORT ENGINEERING (TIWTE), CHINA

14 June 2026, Tianjin, China – The Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) was honoured to participate in the Technical Workshop for Developing Countries on Port and Waterway Construction 2026 organised by the Tianjin Research Institute for Water Transport Engineering (TIWTE), China held from 31 May to 14 June 2026.

SRB was represented by Mr. Leo Nanang, Asst. Controller (Riverine Safety), and Mr. Sam Budi, Asst. Controller (Technical Services). A total of 35 participants from various countries took part in the technical workshop, comprising delegates from Malaysia, Indonesia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Turkey, Thailand, Algeria, Mongolia, and Pakistan.

The participants gained practical insights through technical visits to ports including smart ports, Vessel Traffic Management Systems (VTMS), Maritime Rescue Coordination Centres (MRCC), shipyards, simulation facilities, and research centres. The programs provided valuable exposure to the latest advancements in port and waterway engineering, navigation safety, smart maritime technologies, and sustainable river management through lectures, technical visits, professional forums, and participation in the 4th Tianjin International Shipping Industry Expo (TISIE) 2026 held at the National Convention and Exhibition Centre, Tianjin.

The participation further strengthened international cooperation and enhanced professional engagement among stakeholders, which also provided participants with opportunities to experience, enjoy, and appreciate China’s modern infrastructure, efficient water transport systems, and rich cultural heritage.

During the closing ceremony on 12 June 2026, SRB expressed its highest appreciation to the President of TIWTE, Mr. Dai Mingxin, the Vice President, Ms. Feng Xiaoxiang, and distinguished guests for the successful organisation of the technical workshop. SRB also noted that the programs provided valuable knowledge-sharing and technical exchange sessions, enhancing competencies and serving as useful guidance and benchmarks upon returning to duty.

SRB pledged its commitment to promoting safe, clean, and sustainable rivers in line with the Sarawak Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), under which Sarawak aspires to become a developed State by 2030, guided by three key pillars, i.e., Economic Prosperity, Social Inclusivity, and Environmental Sustainability.
