29 September 2026, Kuala Lumpur - The Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) participated in Malaysia Maritime Week (MMW) 2026, held from 29 September to 1 October 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The delegation was led by Mr. Thomas Romeo Christopher Tegong, Member of the Sarawak Rivers Board, together with four (4) officers Riverine Safety at Headquarters and the Regional Offices in Kuching, Sibu and Miri.
The morning session commenced with the Opening Ceremony on 29 September 2026, officiated by the Minister of Transport Malaysia. The ceremony featured the launch of MMW 2026, the Green Bunkering Regulatory Roadmap, the SAMUDERA Collaborative Project between the Royal Malaysian Navy and MISC Berhad, and the Armada Madani Programme, which provides training opportunities for 100 young Malaysians to pursue careers as seafarers, supported by the Malaysia Shipping Development Fund (MSDF).
The afternoon session commenced with an Opening Plenary Session themed “The Future of Maritime Nations in a Changing World”, featuring the Minister of Transport Malaysia as Guest. The session highlighted maritime resilience, energy security and transition, Malaysia’s position as a regional maritime and logistics hub, and government-industry collaboration. Subsequently, the session was followed by a Leadership Dialogue on Maritime Competitiveness, which discussed cost, capability, decarbonisation readiness, digitalisation and ecosystem development, with participation from representatives of Malaysia Shipowners’ Association (MASA), Lloyd’s, Westports Holdings, Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO) and the Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD).
On the second and third days of the conference, the sessions showcased interesting topics on future maritime opportunities and global challenges, focusing on maritime safety and security, cybersecurity, navigational risks, maritime resilience and decarbonisation. The Ports and Logistics sessions covered port competitiveness, digitalisation, multimodal logistics and the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in port and logistics operations.
SRB’s participation in MMW 2026 provided a platform for knowledge sharing, professional development and engagement with key stakeholders in the maritime sector, particularly in the areas of riverine safety, navigation management, vessel traffic management, Aids to Navigation (AtoN) and sustainable river development.
