MIRI, 4 July 2026 — Yang Berhormat Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, Deputy Minister for Transport Sarawak (Riverine and Marine), conducted an official working visit to Kuala Baram, Miri to inspect the progress of the dredging works at the Kuala Baram navigation channel. The visit was attended by Puan Serawal Budol, the General Manager of Miri Port Authority (MPA), members of the MPA Board of Directors, representatives of the Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB), shipping association, and the project contractor and consultant. A project briefing was delivered by the General Manager of MPA, highlighting that the project which commenced in 2024, was initiated to address sand and silt deposition at the river mouth. Prior to implementation, sediment accumulation had reduced channel depth, had resulting restricting the safe passage of larger vessels such as container and cargo vessels, offshore support vessels and others. The project scope includes dredging works to achieve a navigational depth of five (5) meters below Chart Datum (CD), and the construction of North and South Training Bunds each approximately six (6) kilometers in length which designed to mitigate sedimentation and maintain year-round channel depth. A site visit to the North Training Bund was also conducted, during which it was reported that as of 30 June 2026, overall project progress achieved 69%, which is ahead of schedule by 3%. SRB also confirmed that the necessary approvals, including the Marine Traffic and Risk Analysis (MTRA) study, have been obtained, and that all recommendations shall be complied with throughout the implementation and operational phases. YB Datuk Henry Harry Jinep expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved and commended the cooperation and commitment of all agencies, consultants, contractors, and stakeholders in ensuring timely project delivery. The project shows the commitment of the Sarawak Government to continuous efforts to strengthen maritime infrastructure in order to improve port operational efficiency, enhance navigational safety, and support the growth of shipping, logistics, and the oil and gas industry, thus contributing to prosperity and sustainable economic development in Sarawak.

Langkawi, Kedah 29–30 June 2026 — The Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) was honoured to participate in the IMO–EU–ASEAN Sustainable Connectivity Package (SCOPE) Project National Roundtable on Ferry Safety 2026, held at Aloft Langkawi Pantai Tengah. SRB was represented by Mr. Leo Nanang, Asst. Controller (Riverine Safety). The technical workshop was jointly organised by the Ministry of Transport Malaysia (MOTM) and the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). Key stakeholders included the Malaysia Marine Department, Sabah Ports and Harbours Department, Ship Classification Malaysia, and industry players. The roundtable served as a strategic platform to strengthen cooperation on domestic and riverine ferry safety governance, with emphasis on improving operational safety, regulatory compliance, and enforcement. During the Technical Session, SRB shared its experience in regulating riverine passenger vessel safety, where all passenger vessels are required to be registered with valid River Transport Permit (RTP) which specifies approved fares and operational routes, and enforces a “No Ticket, No Entry” policy, implementation of Departure Pass, and strict enforcement monitoring at terminals and jetties, supported by inter-agency coordination and river patrols, and the session highlighted key improvements moving forward which include real-time passenger tracking, implementation of an e-Departure Pass alongside improved digital integration and coordinated transformation. The keynote and technical presentations covered the National Ferry Safety Analysis Report review, identified improvement options and recommendations, benchmarking analysis, the Merchant Shipping (Amendment) Act 2017 [A1551], development of domestic rules for un-classed vessels, and measures to enhance ferry and passenger vessel safety in Sarawak and Sabah, including Feri MADANI, financial feasibility and bankability assessments, and Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) integration in policy and regulation. These were presented by the appointed IMO consultant, Ship Classification Malaysia experts, government agencies, and operators, and were complemented by an interactive workshop on priority refinement, feasibility ranking, barrier identification, consensus building, and roadmap development for implementation. The final segment of the session included a technical visit to Tanjung Lembung Ferry Terminal (Ro-Ro operations) and Kuah Ferry Terminal (passenger ferry operations) which providing practical observation of operational practices, safety management systems, passenger handling procedures, and supporting infrastructure for domestic ferry services. The technical sessions concluded with consensus on a coordinated reform agenda covering governance harmonisation, digitalisation, safety enhancement, workforce development, and inclusive infrastructure.

Please Click Here To View Album 21 Jun 2026, Sarikei – Lembaga Sungai-Sungai Sarawak (LSS) telah menganjurkan Program Keselamatan dan Kebersihan Sungai di Dewan Kampung Selalang, Sarikei bagi meningkatkan kesedaran masyarakat mengenai aspek keselamatan penggunaan pengangkutan sungai serta kepentingan menjaga kebersihan dan kelestarian alam sekitar. Program tersebut telah dirasmikan oleh Yang Berhormat Datuk Haji Len Talif Salleh, Timbalan Menteri Perancangan Bandar, Pentadbiran Tanah dan Alam Sekitar Sarawak merangkap Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUN) N.41 Kuala Rajang. YB Datuk turut menyempurnakan penyerahan sebanyak 30 buah jaket keselamatan kepada tiga buah kampung iaitu Kampung Masjid Selalang, Kampung Bunga Tanjong Selalang dan Kampung Hilir Selalang sebagai usaha memperkukuh budaya keselamatan dalam kalangan komuniti setempat. Selain itu, aktiviti gotong-royong kebersihan telah diadakan sehari sebelum program dengan kerjasama penduduk Kampung Selalang dan Lembaga Sungai-Sungai Sarawak. Aktiviti tersebut berjaya memupuk semangat kerjasama dan tanggungjawab bersama dalam memastikan sungai serta kawasan persekitarannya sentiasa bersih dan selamat. Seramai 200 orang peserta telah mengikuti sesi ceramah dan perkongsian ilmu yang disampaikan oleh Lembaga Sungai-Sungai Sarawak (LSS), Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia serta Majlis Daerah Sarikei (MDS) berkaitan aspek keselamatan sungai, pencegahan kebakaran, pemeliharaan alam sekitar serta peraturan dan pelesenan haiwan peliharaan. Program ini bukan sahaja berjaya meningkatkan kesedaran mengenai keselamatan dan kebersihan sungai, malah turut mengeratkan hubungan kerjasama antara komuniti setempat dan agensi kerajaan dalam memastikan sungai terus kekal bersih, selamat dan terpelihara. Turut hadir ialah Yang Berhormat Dr. Haji Safiee bin Haji Ahmad, Pengerusi Lembaga Sungai-Sungai Sarawak; Encik Rahimee Bin Dahlan, wakil Setiausaha Tetap Kementerian Pengangkutan Sarawak; Yang Berusaha Lt. Kol. Ding Tiew Wong (Bersara), Controller Lembaga Sungai-Sungai Sarawak, wakil-wakil agensi kerajaan serta para pemimpin masyarakat setempat.

Please Click Here To View Album Mulu, 12 Jun 2026 – Lembaga Sungai-Sungai Sarawak (LSS) telah menganjurkan Program Kesedaran Keselamatan dan Kebersihan Sungai di Dewan Kampung Sungai Melinau, Mulu yang dirasmikan oleh Yang Berhormat Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Menteri Pengangkutan Sarawak. Program ini bertujuan meningkatkan kesedaran masyarakat mengenai keselamatan sungai serta kepentingan menjaga kebersihan persekitaran sungai. Program tersebut mendapat sambutan menggalakkan dengan penyertaan 70 peserta yang terdiri daripada ketua kampung, pengusaha bot dan penduduk setempat. Ceramah kesedaran turut disampaikan oleh Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) berhubung konflik manusia dan buaya serta oleh Lembaga Sungai-Sungai Wilayah Miri mengenai aspek keselamatan dan kebersihan sungai. Dalam majlis yang sama, 30 jaket keselamatan dan Permit Pengangkutan Sungai turut diserahkan kepada pengusaha bot dari JKKK Sungai Melinau, Batu Bungan dan Long Iman sebagai usaha memperkukuh budaya keselamatan dalam kalangan komuniti yang menggunakan sungai sebagai laluan pengangkutan utama. Turut hadir ialah Yang Berhomat Datuk Gerawat Gala Timbalan Menteri di Jabatan Premier Sarawak (Buruh, Imigresen dan Pemantauan Projek) merangkap ADUN N.78 Mulu; Lt. Kol. Ding Tiew Wong (Bersara), Controller LSS, serta wakil-wakil agensi kerajaan dan pemimpin masyarakat setempat.

14 June 2026, Tianjin, China – The Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) was honoured to participate in the Technical Workshop for Developing Countries on Port and Waterway Construction 2026 organised by the Tianjin Research Institute for Water Transport Engineering (TIWTE), China held from 31 May to 14 June 2026. SRB was represented by Mr. Leo Nanang, Asst. Controller (Riverine Safety), and Mr. Sam Budi, Asst. Controller (Technical Services). A total of 35 participants from various countries took part in the technical workshop, comprising delegates from Malaysia, Indonesia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Turkey, Thailand, Algeria, Mongolia, and Pakistan. The participants gained practical insights through technical visits to ports including smart ports, Vessel Traffic Management Systems (VTMS), Maritime Rescue Coordination Centres (MRCC), shipyards, simulation facilities, and research centres. The programs provided valuable exposure to the latest advancements in port and waterway engineering, navigation safety, smart maritime technologies, and sustainable river management through lectures, technical visits, professional forums, and participation in the 4th Tianjin International Shipping Industry Expo (TISIE) 2026 held at the National Convention and Exhibition Centre, Tianjin. The participation further strengthened international cooperation and enhanced professional engagement among stakeholders, which also provided participants with opportunities to experience, enjoy, and appreciate China’s modern infrastructure, efficient water transport systems, and rich cultural heritage. During the closing ceremony on 12 June 2026, SRB expressed its highest appreciation to the President of TIWTE, Mr. Dai Mingxin, the Vice President, Ms. Feng Xiaoxiang, and distinguished guests for the successful organisation of the technical workshop. SRB also noted that the programs provided valuable knowledge-sharing and technical exchange sessions, enhancing competencies and serving as useful guidance and benchmarks upon returning to duty. SRB pledged its commitment to promoting safe, clean, and sustainable rivers in line with the Sarawak Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), under which Sarawak aspires to become a developed State by 2030, guided by three key pillars, i.e., Economic Prosperity, Social Inclusivity, and Environmental Sustainability.
